About Us

On June 8 2003, after the Holy Mass at Southern Ceramics, Fr. Joseph Achankovil and Fr. Anthony expressed a desire to continue this Syro Malabar Church service. The congregation was unanimous in its support and it was decided to conduct the next Holy Mass at K. R. Anthony’s shed on Rayakotta Road.

In the absence of a place with adequate amenities, Fr. Mathias of the Sipcot Parish offered his support and permitted us to conduct the Holy Mass on June 20 2003, starting 5 p.m. in the evening at St. Joseph Church.

Owing to some technicalities, Dharmapuri Bishop Joseph Anthony Irudayaraj requested Fr. Mathias not to conduct the Holy Mass.

On January 16 2004, the members of the Syro Malabar Church decided to pay the Dharmapuri Bishop a visit with an appeal to reestablish the Holy Mass, which was turned down by the Bishop.

All thanks to Fr. John Marias Minikkanamparambil of the St. Thomas Parish, we had the opportunity to raise these issues with Cardinal Varkey Vidhayathil at Dharmaram Seminary within two weeks, on January 28 2004.

On the Cardinal’s recommendation, we sent a detailed letter to Syro Malabar Pastoral Care of Migrants, Bishop Emeritus of Rajkot Mar Gregory Karotemprel apprising of the situation on February 15 2004.

The Bishop of Rajkot in turn sent communication to the Bishop of Dharmapuri to restart the Syro Malabar Holy Mass. To this end, he had even suggested allocating priests. As a result, on May 6 2004, our parish priest received the necessary approval to conduct Holy Mass twice a month from the Dharmapuri Bishop.

Following this, we requested the Dharmapuri Bishop for the consent to conduct the Holy Mass on all the Sundays of the month. A copy of this communication was also sent to the Bishop of Rajkot.

In turn, we sent the requesting letter from the Bishop of Rajkot along with the parishioners’ letter to the Bishop of Dharmapuri. The Bishop of Rajkot was kind enough to send us a copy of this letter.

Due to the untiring efforts of the Bishop of Rajkot, the parish priest of Sipcot received the necessary approval to conduct the Holy Mass on all Sundays. The parish priests of Denkanikotta and Adakalapuram had been entrusted with the task of conducting the Holy Mass.

Starting May 17 2005, we had the fortune of conducting the Holy Mass in the evening from 5 p.m. onwards, on all Sundays.

Taking into consideration the ease of attending the service, it was decided to start the mass in the morning at 9:30 from June 6 2015.

After His Holiness Pope Francis declared new Hosur Diocese, Syro - Malabar members association was formed which consists of about 100 families. With the Grace of God the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Hosur.
